How Much to Spend on Fitness Clothes?

CRAZY CONFESSION TIME. I have been yearning to buy some new workout clothes, namely sports bras, pants, cropped pants, and cute workout tank tops. I bought a pair of shorts and a workout top at Target last week for $20 total but I feel like I should invest in more. Before I learned how to embrace a saving mentality, I used to leave those floodgates open and buy whatever I wanted at the time. Now I find myself thinking about it more and spending days, nights and hours thinking about if I should make a $150 purchase (incl tax). $150!? It sounds like so much!

Here’s what I was thinking. I don’t care for quality work out clothes, but I do care for quantity. I love LuluLemon and all but I’m not willing to shell out $90 for a pair of pants no matter how awesome they make my butt look. Since I am working out about 5-6 times a week, I need clean ones everyday because I sweat up a storm! No one wants to wear stinky clothes and as much as I would want to do laundry every day, it’s not gonna happen people!
Forever 21 has an Activewear line and it’s actually pretty cheap. I could get a few sports bras, pants, a pair of shorts, and lots of cute tops for about $160 or so. The thing is, which ones do I really need? Should I set a limit on the amount I spend or the amount of items I buy? Btw, my boobs are small (A cup -_-) so I don’t need the craziest/most supportive sports bra ever made.

Because I’m so indecisive I’ll post my cart here and you can all help me out.

Disclaimer: Note that there are some items in here not fitness related... I feel ashamed haha but those earrings are so cute and so are those "tap shorts". Agh!!!!

Please tell me I don't need all this stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you need all of that stuff.

I recently purchased new work out clothes and limited it to three sports bras, a new pair of shoes and two new pairs of workout pants (I have at least two other pairs of usable ones and three pairs of gym shorts). I wear old tee shirts to the gym--not very stylish, but workable for now.

If I were you, I'd get several sports bras, three pairs of pants and maybe one or two of the tops. Do you have old tanks or shirts that can be used as gym wear?

I find that I don't need to wash my pants/shorts after every workout--especially when I'm only lifting weights. Hence, I don't need as many bottoms.

I'm like you in I'm about quantity over quality. Stores like lulumon are so expensive!

If fitness is a big part of your life, look at workout clothes as an investment. I usually buy Nike apparel, and it can get pretty expensive, but I look at it like it is going to last a long time, and handle my sweat (I sweat up a storm too).

Seeing that I spend a lot on workout clothes, I think this order is very reasonable! I can spend $160 on maybe 3 items, and here, you have more than double that.

I have a couple of Lululemon tops (I got as a gift) and I absolutely LOVE them, but you're right, they're expensive! I don't see myself spending THAT much for at top.

I think you should check out Old Navy for activewear. They're quite nice and the quality is better than F21. I also recommend handwashing some and hang-dry them. You don't need a lot of soap or detergent to wash off the sweat from your clothes. If you leave them in your hamper or laundry basket all week, they'll be ... stinky. :)

I work out 3 - 4 times a week and I have

4 sports bra (all lululemon) but I got them for $19 each and I got small small boobs too, but I rather pay a bit more for the sports bra than the shirt.

As for the shirts, I wear old T-shirts until I picked the ones I have now from the outlet over time (adidas, nike)... for less than $10..if not.. Winners have pretty decent deals sometimes so maybe you can check it out there?

I have 3 pairs of shorts (same, I bought it at the outlet all for less than $10 each) and I pair of track capri and 2 pair of track pants and that's all I needed :D

I bought mine over time...cuz I prefer quality over quantity (but quality for a really really good price) so maybe check and see what you need most and then build from there?

I agree with Jess on hand washing your workout clothes! The Lululemon top I have hasn't been in the washer ever. As soon as I get home from the gym, and I hop in the shower, I bring that top in with me and wash it out in there, ring it out a little and let it dry on the towel rack.
