Thinking Ahead

I think the storm has passed. I've been letting my nerves get the best of me but this little battle of applying to law school has just begun and it will be a continuous uphill one. Once I take the LSAT, I still have to focus on my personal statements, my addendum, resume, and hounding down my contacts for my letters of recommendation. Ever since I was young, my dad has instilled the mentality that thinking ahead is of utmost importance. Needless to say it always worked and I shouldn't forget this little rule at this point in my life.

Being accepted into law school won't be the only victory. As much as I'd like to think it will be easy once that hurdle has been passed, it will just be the beginning. There will be times when I don't know what the hell I'm supposed to be studying, days when I will be called on and won't know the answer and consequently black out from the sheer horror, agonizing nights of hoping to pass my classes and times where I will be hoping and praying that I won't be one of those people who get kicked out of law school!

Thinking of the future is helping me calm down quite a bit as this is not the end all be all of my life. Anyway - on to other more positive items, I really miss the gym and tracking my spending. I know when I make time in being balanced, I feel much better and stronger. At this point, I can't take on any new exercise regimens or add to my already busy schedule but in a week and a half I will have more time on my hands...well maybe after 3 weeks since I'll be working on my applications feverishly.

I think you're wise to think ahead. Going to law school and getting that degree is not anywhere near the ticket to high-society living the way people perceive it to be. Lots of students, even from ivey league law schools, graduate without a job. The good news is, the earlier you think about it and plan ahead, the better. I'd say you're ahead of 98% of the people I went to law school with by just planning for it now. Still, don't worry too much though, things have a way of working out for smart and ambitious people like yourself.

I know you're not canadian, but check out www.lawstudents.ca for a forum for canadian law students. The "career" section has some good advice (and horror stories).

Thanks my money my life! I will check it out for sure. I'm definitely pondering on whether I should even be working full-time or part-time with law school because I'm not some brainiac who doesn't need to study to just pass. Sigh!

You will experience a lot in law school but you will be there which is the best part. Everything will be OK :)

This is in reply to your comment on my blog - I think you can probably work part time while going to school in the upper years. They say that the first year of law school is the toughest and it definitely rang true in my case. But I was stubborn and worked part time in first year... my marks turned out average, not bad but definitely not great. My marks shot up in my second and third years, when I stopped working, but I'm sure the fact that I worked harder, and was more used to the law school style learning had something to do with it too.

I definitely don't think law school is doable while attending school full time and working full time. If you want to work my advice is to try out just law school for a while - just after your first set of exams, to see how you can handle it, before plunging into too much commitments. Good luck and keep us posted!

You have the right approach. I know some people who do not think past the test. I even know one person who only started worrying about paying for Law School...once the statement for the fees were ready. You really seem to have it figured out. I really hope you get in!!

With the HCG Drops, the day of finally fitting into a
pair of skinny jeans will not be a dream after all. This is not the energy
expenditure with planned exercise. "Never feeling hungry is not a sign of being healthy," stated Dr.
